The Academy offers classes from childhood to professional.
Our children are very special to us as they represent our future, and at the earliest age we mix fun with a basic introduction to dancing, to make their time with us a happy one.
Through the years as they grow up they proceed through structured class work which increases in sophistication at a rate equal to their physical and mental development.
Dancing has benefits which can last for a lifetime and it is important to us that our children have a caring and careful introduction to this wonderful activity.
Classical Ballet is taught under the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus.
The Royal Academy is based in London, and is recognised universally as the guardian of classical ballet teaching standards.
Founded in 1920, the Royal Academy syllabus is taught in 84 countries world wide under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Royal Academy of Dance holds examinations for demonstration of student progress and ability. The Academy’s syllabus has been devised with great care to ensure the safe and correct training of students.
Two distinct training pathways provide -
> Graded syllabus - This is fun for children who are learning to dance.
> Vocational Graded Syllabus - This is for students over the age of 11 who wish to study ballet more seriously, possibly with a view to pursuing a career in dance or dance related areas.
Additional Dance Studies - In a society that increasingly requires versatility a range of relevant dance styles are offered by Kay Flynn Ballet And Dancing Academy. Covering Jazz/Tap, exams are held in the FATD syllabus, Modern, Contemporary, National Character, Pas de deux, Open Classical open Performance.
Normally classes start at 3.45pm weekdays and last for one or two hours depending on the age of the student. Some classes are also held Saturday.
The hours the students need depends on their age and the type of dancing they are studying.
Clothing.
For the little ones, the following is worn for basic dance practice-
Pink Leotard
Pink dance tights
Pink skirt.
Pink Ballet shoes.
These clothing items are available for purchase through our studios.
Clothing changes as students work up through the levels and also when they get involved in eisteddfods and concerts.
In May/June period there are opportunities to perform in the annual concert held by the Combined Dance Teachers Association. Mid year, just before exams, parents and friends are invited to a display day, where they are able to see how the children have progressed through the year, and how they are prepared to appear in the exams.
After the exams, it is all “Show Time” as all students and teachers work hard to prepare new dances and new costumes for the end of year concert which is held in the Gold Coast Art Centre in early December.
The Gold Coast Art Centre is a wonderful setting and enables our young students to get the exciting experience of performing in professional surroundings.
